Darcy Shaver
comes from the "Big Muddy Country" of Southern Saskatchewan.
She was raised on her parents farm 20 miles from Bengough where
she was born in 1956. She moved to Alberta in 1974 and now resides
12 miles out of Ponoka where she and her husband Lewis Reid own
and operate Tamarack Trail Gallery.
Shaver was influenced at an early age by her Grandmother, the late "Jean Shaver" artist and sculptor. She feels very fortunate to have inherited her Grandmother's talents making it possible to pursue an art career of her own.
Shaver has no formal training in art and is self-taught. She has spent years fine tuning her work to get the results she now produces. Her original oils are done on masonite, consisting of numerous layers of paint, sprays and long hours. Shaver does not do commission work or use photographs for her themes as both are too restricting. She only uses photographs when in need of color and confirmation of various breeds of animals and for detail on objects such as wagon wheels, windmills etc. Most of the original paintings she does are available in Limited Edition Prints. She has also turned her interests to bronze sculptures, something she hopes to be doing more of in years to come.
Shaver attributes a great deal of her success to husband and partner Lewis Reid. Lewis promotes and sells her work while attending shows in Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. They have also ventured into the United States to show at the "C.M. Russell Art Show" in Great Falls, Montana and have started to expand into North and South Dakota. Shaver's work is also sold on the Internet, by phone or mail order. If you would like to visit Tamarack Trail Gallery please call for an appointment at (403) 782-9755. All inquiries are welcome.
With great sadness, we inform you that Darcy passed away on January 23, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Lewis will continue to sell Darcy's prints in the same format and for the same price as always. He will be attending limited shows but will keep running Tamarack Trail Gallery as long as necessary to sell out her limited edition prints.
